Erik ten Hag has called for consistency in officiating after Manchester United were denied a penalty in their 1-1 draw against Burnley.

The Red Devils looked set for three points when Antony put them 1-0 up in the 79th minute at Old Trafford - his first goal in the Premier League this season.

But with just three minutes left, Zeki Amdouni scored a penalty to level the game after Andre Onana's error.

However United could have had a spot-kick of their own in the closing stages after Vitinho handled Scott McTominay's cross.

VAR failed to get involved, despite United giving away a similar penalty in last week's FA Cup semi-final win over Coventry after the ball hit Aaron Wan-Bissaka's hand.

Ten Hag was quick to point this out, as he spoke of his frustration in his post-match interview to Sky Sports.

Commenting on whether Burnley's late equaliser was down to bad luck or mentality, Ten Hag said: "Both - bad luck and we are not lucky with the refereeing in recent weeks.

"We've conceded so many penalties, this one is justified but other ones.

"If you make Wan-Bissaka in the [FA Cup semi] final a penalty then what is this [Vitinho]? Where is the consistency?

"We have to look in the mirror. We made a mistake, but you take responsibility and they should understand what it means for a team and for a manager."

On the performance as a whole, Ten Hag stressed it was a positive display from his men, despite allowing 16 shots on goal from the relegation-threatened Clarets.

He told BBC Sport: "We created loads of chances as well.

"We are one of the most dynamic and entertaining teams in the league at this moment.

"We are creating loads of chances by playing good football, it was unnecessary to lose control.

"We repaired this at half-time and second half was much better."

From chasing Champions League football, United are now in danger of failing to qualify for any European competition next term with four games to play.

They currently sit in sixth spot - a point ahead of Newcastle in seventh.
