Ten days have passed since John Sheridan departed Carlisle United for non-league side Chesterfield. Here is an updated five potential candidates to replace him-
Lee Clark- He has emerged as the frontrunner for the vacant position. The former Huddersfield Town, Birmingham City, Blackpool, Kilmarnock and Bury boss has been available since October 2017 and could now be set for a return to the dugout.
Owen Coyle- The experienced boss has been out of work since his sacking by Ross County in March last year. He has had spells at St Johnstone, Burnley, Bolton Wanderers, Wigan Athletic, Houston Dynamo, Blackburn Rovers and Ross County in the past. Could he make his return to management with Carlisle?
Paul Murray- He is currently in caretaker charge alongside Tommy Wright. Carlisle won in their first game in charge over Crawley Town 3-2 but lost on Saturday against Northampton Town 3-0. They could be options if they can string a set of results together but it is more likely the board will opt for a new face.
Robbie Stockdale- He has a good reputation in the game as a coach. The 39-year-old left Sunderland in the summer when Jack Ross took over having worked there since 2012. Stockdale had previously worked at Grimsby Town after retiring from retiring.
Paul Hurst- The former Boston United, Grimsby Town, Shrewsbury Town and Ipswich Town boss is looking for a return to the game following his sacking by the Tractor Boys in October. Carlisle are currently 6th in League Two so are an interesting proposition for him.
