That underwhelming performance followed another in the FA Cup against Coventry, leaving the pressure piled on Erik ten Hag despite back-to-back victories.

Vincent Kompany’s Clarets are the next side to visit Old Trafford and could shock United as they continue to fight for their lives.

Man United vs Burnley: Pay cuts at Old Trafford

The majority of the United squad will also be hit in the pocket in an effort to make success or failure on the pitch a collective effort.

It also means Ten Hag would be entitled to a smaller compensation package if the club decide to part company with their manager at the end of the season.

The Red Devils are currently sixth and 14 points off Aston Villa in the Champions League places with five games to play.

So they are all set to be hit with a major reduction to their pay once the campaign ends.

Ten Hag called for his team to cut out their errors after being forced to come back from behind twice in their win over Sheffield United.

He said: "The team showed resilience and it is not easy when you are losing the game against a compact team, as Sheffield United was.

"We outplayed them, we were calm, didn't let them run and we created a lot of chances.

"We can't keep making such mistakes, and the top level if you want to achieve your targets, if you want to win trophies, then you have to stop this process.
